In those hyper lean matchups tempo tends to be incredibly important, so being able to trade up on mana, or deploy and protect a threat in the same turn can easily turn the tide of a game
Furthermore it gives a better chance to have four mana on turn three, which means you can cast Sam and have mana to sacrifice a food token so Frodo can start being tempted by the Ring right away
I first started playing Commander when I was 12 years old, and all the decks my friends and I played could be summed up as [commander name] Good Stuff. Its a style and strategy thats both underrated and incredibly fun to play
