Brits 1796 pattern Light Cavalerie sabel, scherp Vikingbroeken The Romans not only paintedThis saber is based on the original, designed by Major General John Gaspard Le Marchant. It was the cavalry sword of the 1796 pattern based on swords of Central and Eastern European hussars. This saber was used by the British light cavalry. As a young captain, he noticed the awkward design of the heavy, overly long swords of the 1788 pattern. Le Marchant felt that the "knives of the Turks, Mamluks, Moors and Hungarians (were better) than any other."
