After the light brown speckled clay was thrown to create the vase shape

yet the geometric glaze application adds pops of cool colors

After the clay slab was smoothed and dried a bit I painted letters and leaves with underglazes

Black & cream vase Dark brown clay After the light brown speckledThis black and cream vase is one of the first pieces of pottery I made that I was proud of! The method for decorating it is called Sgraffito. Black underglaze was painted on the exterior, then I used a sharp tool and free hand design to strategically remove parts of the black layer. Then after a first kiln firing it was glazed with clear glaze and fired at a much higher temperature. I love the chaos (no rules!) and freedom that are integral to organic
