Its not uncommon to find shell cameos with jet backing where an Italian carving has been imported and mounted in the uk and made into jewellery but you dont often see jet cameos as the carvers in and around Whitby generally preferred to carve geometric or organic looking shapes and it was nearly always made into plain brooches or beads.
