After more than a half century, it has retained some of the spicy, floral character of the Douro grape varieties, as well as a sense of the schist soil on which they were cultivated, on steep terraces perched precariously above the river. As befits its great maturity, the fruit has evolved into rich date and fig character, accompanied by refined
