Being the early style flip turn models, you'll lift to flip it while making waffles, and it sits flat on any surface. The raised 8 reminds us of the very hard to find Lodge and BSR raised waffle irons. There is a small pinhole from the pattern that is there but putting waffle batter on them won't be an issue. It is a gorgeous piece to have
