As the seasons changed and the forest went through its cycles

broken only by the occasional mournful call of the Heron

where the resilience of nature and the tenacity of the Crane’s spirit shone through

One landed on the old oak stump, the others dropping to the snow covered ground. They called to each other, then began their slow patrol of the yard, walking with that deliberate, confident stride.
