ROYAL SOVEREIGN (1948) was built for use as a coastal cruiser around the Thames

The painting depicts what was most probably a fictitious meeting between the sailing warship HMS QUEEN and the 206-ton paddle-steamer WILLIAM FAWCETT which made the first Peninsular Steam sailing to Spain and Portugal in 1835
